Now, this is going to cause controversy, I know it – having put an incredibly famous and well-loved black-and-gold livery at #10 in my list, I’ve gone and chosen a design that, let’s face it, could justifiably be described as something of a ripoff, and put it one place above! Have I gone mad? Well… no. But while the Wolf design has neither the historical significance nor the fame of the JPS Lotus, what it does do is take the colour scheme and do something a bit jazzier with it. I mean, just look at that “swoosh” of gold across the side of the chassis – it’s brilliant! Once again, the look is pure ‘70s – nowadays, you’d expect the gold to be much brighter, the sponsor logos more clearly picked out – but it exudes class (even if that class is somewhat nicked from Lotus) and elegant simplicity. Sadly, it’s not one I’ve ever seen in motion, but it looks good enough in photos that I have no qualms about calling it a favourite. Short-lived, but definitely memorable.
