Fondmetal (1992)

As we’ll see over the forthcoming twenty-odd entries, a car doesn’t have to be particularly good in order to have a smart livery. And the short-lived Italian effort (formerly the Osella team, renamed after sponsors Fondmetal for ’92) are certainly a prime example. They may have plugged around the back of the field, but at least they did so in a smart little black, red and silver number. The yellow endplates at the front and rear bring it dangerously close to breaking the “too many colours” rule (as Renault showed last year, you should never try and have more than three main colours together), but as an Italian team, they can just about get away with it. It’s also a rare example of a rear-order car not spoiled by having too many fiddling little sponsor decals everywhere…
